About the role

The role is responsible for developing and coordinating Council’s Community Safety activities and partnerships to support Council’s commitment to fostering a safe environment. The successful candidate will also work across Council and create partnerships with local and regional community groups and statutory authorities.

Within the area of responsibility, this role is required to:

  • Focus on implementing and evaluating initiatives in the Community Safety Plan with a particular focus on challenging the perceptions of safety and to address community and other stakeholder perceptions and concerns.
  • Assist in the allocation of the Community Safety Levy fund, including management of graffiti and CCTV contracts, to support Council’s commitment to fostering a safe environment.
  • Work in partnership with urban design in relation to safer by design practises and in collaboration with the Police Community Safety Officer.
  • Undertake community education and promotional activities and developing and implementing programs of activities during community safety month.
  • Undertake Community Safety Audits as required to ensure Council facilities comply with legislative and regulatory obligations.
  • Provide timely and relevant reports on Community Safety activities to inform planning and decision making.
  • Work in collaboration with and assist the team, manager and other key stakeholders to achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities.

About you

If you have a passion for creating and fostering a safe community environment by partnering with Council, external agencies, community organisations and other groups, then this is the job for you. This role will work with these groups to develop and implement community safety projects in response to emerging community safety issues.

  • Tertiary or other qualifications and/or relevant experience in community development, crime prevention, social sciences/planning, or another relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in community development/place management
  • Experience in policy development including the development, implementation and elevation of policies and projects.
  • An understanding of relevant legalisation and guidelines.
  • The capacity to consult and engage effectively with different stakeholders and communities
  • Current Drivers Licence Class C.
