About the role
Southern Star Disability Care is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Female Disability Support Worker to join our team in Merrylands, NSW. This is a casual position that offers flexibility whilst making a meaningful difference in the lives of people with disability. As a Female Disability Support Worker, you will provide essential support and assistance to individuals with various disabilities, helping them to achieve their goals, maintain independence, and participate fully in community life. This role is fundamental to our mission of delivering person-centred care and support that empowers our clients to live with dignity and choice.
Key responsibilities
Provide personal care assistance including bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting support as required
Assist clients with meal preparation, cooking and feeding support
Support clients with household tasks such as cleaning, laundry and shopping
Accompany clients to medical appointments, community outings and social activities
Support clients with daily living skills development and independence goals
Maintain accurate and detailed records of support provided and client progress
Communicate effectively with clients, families, team members and supervisors
Follow all safety protocols, duty of care obligations and organisational policies
Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all clients
Respond compassionately to clients' needs and concerns
What we're looking for
Genuine passion for supporting people with disability and commitment to person-centred care
Physical ability to provide hands-on personal care and assistance with mobility
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships
Patience, empathy and a non-judgmental approach to care
Reliability and commitment to punctuality, particularly important in a casual role
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Must hold current First Aid and CPR certifications before commencing employment
Working With Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check requirements
Experience in disability support, aged care or community services is highly valued
Minimum experience in disability support, aged care or community services is required
Formal qualifications such as Certificate III in Disability (or equivalent) are preferred
A valid driver's licence is advantageous for community-based support
