Site Development Lead

Ausgrid is commencing a novel Community Power pilot which maximises the potential for rooftop solar in our communities, solves equity issues for those in rentals and apartments who can’t install their own solar and storage, and helps improve network utilisation and costs. This role – the Site Development Lead – will put you at the leading edge of this pilot and mean you are contributing to design the potential distribution network of the future. The role is responsible for developing the standards and processes for selecting locations for batteries and then engaging with communities, councils and commercial property owners to identify specific sites and obtain in principle agreement to battery placements. They will manage coordination with other Ausgrid teams to finalise and schedule sites for community-scale batteries across the Community Power Network (CPN) pilot regions.

The role is highly customer-facing and will directly determine the success of CPN delivery by securing locations for our batteries while maintaining a positive social license with the communities in which they are installed.

Approximately 80% of the role is focused on stakeholder engagement, negotiation and coordination to identify locations for our batteries at pace and at scale. The remaining 20% of the role applies technical network understanding to ensure site decisions align with engineering, safety and commercial requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead development of agreed standards and specific locations for CPN batteries, from general location requirements defined by the spatial energy plan to specific battery locations endorsed by relevant stakeholders ready to be commercially secured
• Act as the primary community and customer interface for battery site locations for CPN
• Engage with councils, community members, advocacy groups, commercial property owners and internal Ausgrid teams to agree sites, terms and gain any required approvals to use the sites
• Work with internal Property and Engineering teams to negotiate and secure agreements on battery locations, managing safety, environment and access considerations
• Coordinate multiple sites in parallel to maintain delivery momentum (60 sites per 6-month wave)
• Translate technical requirements into clear, accessible language for non-technical stakeholders and ensure the sites agreed upon are safe, compliant, and cost-effective options for the program
• Maintain accurate records of site decisions and agreements
• Perform other reasonable duties and responsibilities, as may be directed by your manager, that align with the complexity of work detailed in the Work Level Standards for this role.

• More than five years’ experience in a role focused on stakeholder engagement and negotiating with councils and communities for land access
• Experience in managing the processes for obtaining approvals to use council land for utility assets
• Analytical and creative thinking skills, with the ability to develop solutions to technical and administrative challenges.
• Highly developed organisational, time management, and project management skills, with the capacity to manage competing tasks, set priorities, and deliver under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, accurately, and effectively.
• High level of autonomy and to be comfortable working in a fluid environment
• Experience coordinating complex delivery activities at scale with many active sites
• Basic understanding of electrical networks and construction and the factors that influence install complexity safety and cost effectiveness
• Ability to integrate technical requirements into stakeholder conversations
• Advanced Microsoft Office capability
• Understanding of distribution networks and battery installation requirements.
• Experience working with local councils and community consultation processes.
• Experience working with commercial property managers.
• In depth knowledge of a range of planning pathways including network local council DA’s and electrical grid connections
