The Opportunity

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Fitter will join the team of tradesmen providing maintenance support to the manufacturing team, with the goal of minimising machine downtime while having consideration for safety, quality, and cost.

Day Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:00AM-2:30PM.

What You'll Do
  • Carry out installation, removal, and maintenance of mechanical equipment including valves, pumps, pipework, rollers, gearboxes, shafts, cutters, chain drives, bearings, and machine guards
  • Perform online and offline inspections of machinery, documenting equipment condition and recommending actions for repair or improvement
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, electricians, and engineers to investigate mechanical faults while responding safely and efficiently to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime
  • Undertake a variety of workshop-based tasks including welding, machining, equipment rebuilds, and repairs to pallets and trucks
  • Partner with the operational team to support the planning and execution of maintenance activities while escalating risks and potential concerns through the appropriate channels
  • Contribute to the identification, scoping, and implementation of improvement projects
  • Ensure that James Hardie's manufacturing operations is undertaken in line with the company's strict health and safety standards
What you'll Bring
  • Mechanical trade qualifications – fitter machinist or fitter welder preferred
  • Experience working on mechanical maintenance of industrial machinery
  • Good problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work as part of a wider team to ensure the ongoing safety and reliable operation of the Manufacturing Plant
  • Passion and dedication for reliability and maintainability within a large manufacturing environment operating 24/7
  • An understanding of sound maintenance and engineering practice, coupled with the ability to apply this understanding in an operating Manufacturing Plant
  • Valuable written and verbal communication skills
