About the role

Honey and Walnut Patisserie is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Hand to join our team in Dulwich Hill. Both full-time and part-time positions are available. You will play a vital role in maintaining the smooth operation of our kitchen, supporting our chefs and bakers in delivering exceptional patisserie and culinary creations to our valued customers. As a Kitchen Hand, you will be instrumental in ensuring our kitchen operates efficiently whilst maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. Your contribution will directly impact the quality and consistency of the food we produce and serve.

Key responsibilities

  1. Prepare and organise ingredients for cooking and baking operations

  2. Wash, peel and chop vegetables, fruits and other ingredients as required

  3. Clean and maintain all kitchen equipment, utensils and work surfaces to the highest hygiene standards

  4. Assist with the setup and breakdown of kitchen stations

  5. Take responsibility for proper storage of ingredients and food items in accordance with food safety regulations

  6. Support chefs and bakers during service by fetching & weighing ingredients

  7. Manage waste disposal and recycling in an environmentally responsible manner

  8. Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment

  9. Follow all food safety and health and safety protocols without exception

  10. Assist with general kitchen duties as directed by senior kitchen staff

What we're looking for

  1. Previous experience in a kitchen environment, food preparation or hospitality setting is highly desirable

  2. A strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices, including knowledge of cross-contamination prevention

  3. Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift items up to 20 kg

  4. Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness

  5. Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

  6. Reliability and punctuality with a professional attitude

  7. A genuine passion for food and hospitality

  8. Flexibility with working hours, including weekends

  9. Current or willingness to obtain a Food Handling Certificate is advantageous

  10. Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques is preferred but training will be provided for the right candidate
