Be Part of Something New and Meaningful!
At Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney, we’re rethinking hospitality—putting community, sustainability, and self-expression at the heart of everything we do. Designed to be of the community, not just in it, Caption by Hyatt is the first of its kind in Australia, offering a vibrant, people-first experience that’s as much about connection as it is about comfort.
We’re looking for a Director of Sales and Marketing to lead our Sales & Marketing function—an experienced, commercially minded leader who can shape strategy, drive revenue, build brand presence, and create meaningful connections across the market. If you're passionate about hotel commercial performance, client relationships, creative marketing, food and beverage, community partnerships, and leading a department with purpose, this could be the perfect role for you.
About Caption by Hyatt Sydney
Caption by Hyatt is not some basic hotel. Designed to be truly of the community—not just in it—the people make the place here. Our place is yours for the making, where you can do (and be) you.
Opened in October 2025, Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney features 174 colourful, fun, and eco-friendly guest rooms along with Talk Shop, our all-day lounge and eatery. Expect authentic experiences in an environment where everyone feels at home.
Why Join Us?
Shape something meaningful – Lead the Sales & Marketing function for Australia’s first Caption by Hyatt and help grow the hotel’s commercial success in its next chapter.
Make a meaningful impact – Drive total hotel revenue across rooms, food and beverage, events, partnerships, corporate travel, entertainment, leisure, wholesale and group segments.
Bring People and Place to life – Build community partnerships, local connections and brand moments that make Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney feel truly part of its neighbourhood.
Lead with purpose – Build a commercially focused department while championing inclusivity, creativity, sustainability, and Hyatt’s purpose of care.
Access global support – Partner with Hyatt’s regional sales, marketing, revenue and commercial teams to grow your impact and amplify the hotel’s performance.
About the Role
As Director of Sales and Marketing, you’ll lead the development and execution of the hotel’s sales and marketing strategy, with responsibility for driving total hotel revenue, building market presence, growing key accounts, and positioning Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney as a preferred choice for guests, clients, partners, and the local community. This is a Department Head role within the newly opened Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney — a select service hotel environment with a lifestyle look and feel. You will work closely with the General Manager, Revenue Services, Operations, Finance, Food & Beverage, owners, and Hyatt’s regional teams.
You’ll be hands-on in driving new business, leading commercial activity, managing key relationships, guiding marketing communications, and ensuring the Sales & Marketing department is focused, accountable, and aligned with the hotel’s goals across rooms and food and beverage.
As a new brand in market, with People and Place as key pillars, this role requires someone with drive, creativity and passion — someone who can build meaningful local partnerships, bring the brand to life, and continue to grow the success of the hotel and Talk Shop. Experience in a recently opened hotel or growing a new market presence is a plus — but what matters most is your commercial leadership, strong marketing capability, collaborative approach, and ability to turn strategy into measurable results.
Some Key Responsibilities
Lead the hotel’s sales and marketing strategy to drive total hotel revenue across rooms, food and beverage, events and key commercial segments
Drive new business through proactive sales activity, strategic account management and market networking
Manage and grow key accounts, ensuring strong engagement, retention and conversion across accommodation, dining, events and local partnerships
Partner with Revenue Services and Food & Beverage leaders on pricing, promotions, demand generation and tactical commercial opportunities
Oversee marketing, PR, digital activity, promotions and brand campaigns to build awareness and drive demand for the hotel, Talk Shop and F&B experiences
Represent the hotel at trade shows, client events, sales missions, networking opportunities and community activities
Build meaningful community partnerships and local collaborations that bring Caption’s People and Place pillars to life
Lead, coach and support the Sales & Marketing team, ensuring clear goals, accountability and strong performance
Work cross-functionally with hotel departments to identify revenue opportunities and optimise guest, client and dining experiences
Maintain accurate records in Hyatt systems and use reporting, market insights and business intelligence to guide decisions
Support World of Hyatt, community engagement, local partnerships and brand activations that strengthen hotel performance and positioning
What you will bring to the role:
Proven hotel sales and marketing senior leadership experience, with strong commercial results
Demonstrated success bringing a brand, hotel concept or market positioning to life
Strong marketing capability across strategy, campaigns, PR, digital, activations and brand storytelling
Proven ability to drive food and beverage performance through creative marketing, partnerships and local engagement
Strategic commercial thinking, with the ability to grow rooms, F&B, events and partnership revenue
Strong owner relations experience, with the ability to build trust, communicate commercial performance and support asset objectives
Experience managing sales and marketing budgets, campaign spend and commercial resources effectively
A collaborative leadership style that brings departments together around shared goals
Natural ability and passion for coaching, developing and growing team members
Confidence managing key accounts, building relationships and converting new business opportunities
Creative, hands-on approach with the ability to turn ideas into measurable results
Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills
Ability to use reporting, market insights and performance measures to guide decisions
Familiarity with Hyatt systems, including Envision and PACER, is a plus
Commitment to Hyatt’s purpose of care, guest experience, colleague engagement and community connection
What’s in it for you:
Be part of a purpose-driven brand redefining hospitality in Australia
