MTS are the proud operators and maintainers of the M1 Northwest and Bankstown Line with the new City section now operational. We run a fully automated passenger railway – an Australian first.  We connect our customers to opportunities that matter to them while delivering the next generation of rail travel to Sydney. With global expertise, we manage 51.5km of track and 21 stations, with a planned expansion into southwest Sydney.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Safety, Quality, Risk and Environment we have a permanent opportunity for an experienced Security Manager to lead the delivery of an operational response capability for Metro Trains Sydney (MTS). The role will provide security leadership, deploy surveillance and mobile services, and oversee the contract security arrangements post procurement phase.

This is a critical role where you will develop security strategies that improve the customer experience and lead the implementation of strategies which mitigate security threats which may impact the reliability of trains and the safety of passengers.  This will be achieved by developing policies and procedures in all aspects of security operations through efficient and sustainable services to provide for a safe and secure environment for MTS workers, visitors, and assets in a cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement the Security Management Plan for MTS.
  • Develop and implement effective security controls, mechanisms and processes to protect people, information, and property (including critical assets).
  • Develop and implement regular security risk assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures in consultation with relevant stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies and security vendors, to enhance security measures and respond to incidents.
  • Investigate and manage security breaches, incidents and violations, document findings and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide timely advice in relation to major security and terrorist issues and incidents and potential prevention or redemption strategies to the executive leadership team (ELT), the board and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage and oversee internal security access systems, including access cards and authorisations.
  • Manage surveillance equipment and other security technologies to ensure robust governance, monitoring and effectiveness.
  • Educate MTS management and workers on security awareness, policies and procedures through training programs and communication initiatives.

About You

This is a fast-paced role that requires a proactive and self-motivated leader.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in security management and demonstrate experience in organisational preparedness for an effective response to emerging security threats and to adjust security operations to changes in national security threat levels.

You will have superior verbal and written communication skills coupled with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships engaging with law enforcement agencies, including combat agencies and other security agencies, government and other key stakeholders as required.

You will have previous experience in managing intelligence, surveillance and investigation operations, as well as being familiar with initiating and adhering to relevant legislation, policies, procedures, and directives, whilst managing risk assessments, and action plans to address areas of improvement in operations.
